Rare Kangaroo Rat Discovered on PVP

Tipton Kangaroo Rat

In early July 2017, Carolyn Belli and a team from the Urban Rivers Institute were walking the Preserve when one of them happened to spot this tiny creature.

It was  a Tipton Kangaroo Rat, never seen on Panorama Vista before.

This is a significant discovery as the Tipton Kangaroo Rat is an endangered species.   The Tipton K-Rat weighs in at 1-2 ounces and lives primarily on seeds.  (There are two other species of kangaroo rats known in the southern San Joaquin Valley but neither are in the endangered category.)
